Meet the Governor
Bob Wise, West Virginia's 33rd governor, took office on January
15, 2001. He immediately launched a bold legislative agenda: funding
the PROMISE Scholarships, stimulating economic development and increasing

Department of Transportation
The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is comprised
of more than 6,000 men and women who work in the Division of Highways;
Division of Motor Vehicles; Division of Public Transit; the Public
Port Authority; the Parkways, Economic Development and Tourism Authority
(W.V. Turnpike); the State Rail Authority; and the Aeronautics Commission.

PROMISE Scholarships
The West Virginia PROMISE (Providing Real Opportunities for Maximizing
In-state Student Excellence) Scholarship Program, approved by the
Legislature in 1999, offers each West Virginia high school graduate
who completes school in West Virginia with a 3.0 grade point average
in the core and overall coursework as well as a composite ACT score
of at least 21, or a combined SAT score of 1000, a full tuition
scholarship to a state college or university or an equivalent dollar
scholarship ($2709) to an in-state private college. -READ
